Abstract
Talwin, a member of the benzazocine series, is introduced as a potent analgesics and it is particulary non-narcotics proved by W.H.O. as well F.D.A. of U.S.A. and this was supply us for the clinical trials, and this paper is to report our clinical experiences with the drug.
Total cases who received the Talwin for a relief of pain were 51, 24 females and 27 males. Of the 51 patients, total medications were done 130 times and the most of the indicationwere to control the post-operative pain and 13 cases were received the drug without relating a surgery. Table 2 shows the detailed indications for the use of the Talwin. In many cases 20 mgm of Talwin was injected and an average time to onset to relieve pain was 17.5 minutes in 20 mgm administration but the pain relief was usually seen in less than 20 minutes after injection. In an extreme case the severe biliary colic was relieved in ten minutes and in the other extreme no clinical effect was menifested at all. As to the length of pain relief, except the one case of no clinicale ffect, it lasted more than three hours. In one case, however, the pain relief lasted over eight hours whereas in the other extreme the pain relief lasted on one hour and 20 minutes. Over-all results of pain relief were satisfactory, and in 94.5% of cases the results were good (Table 4). Very few side effects were, however, observed but they were mild. The side effects observed by us were vertigo (9.2%), headache(9. 2%), nausea and vomitings in their order of frequency.
